Do you put thanksgiving at arms reach? Do you keep it impersonal by associating it only as tradition or the historical event of the pilgrims? Have you lost the real meaing of Thanksgiving? Giving thanks is a rational response of a heart that recognizes the value of grace.
Will you be ready to respond when some people stop thinking selfishly and show consideration to you. If they open a space for you in traffic rather than cut you off, give thanks. If someone holds the door open for you rather than slamming it in your face, give thanks. If someone brightens your day with a loving smile and share words of comfort and peace, give thanks.
If we recognize the relative and transitive grace shown us by our fellow man, how much more should our spiritual eyes be open to the wider grace of God. King David tells us, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever” (1 Chron. 16:34).
