Christian researchers
have discovered that meeting in small groups lead to a better quality of Christian
maturity and also to church growth.
| They broke bread
in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere
hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the
people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who
were being saved. - ACTS 2:46-47 |
The early church did not have big church
buildings. In fact, they had to hold their meetings secretly
in their homes because of severe persecution. They used the symbol
of a
fish, called the ichthys in Greek, as a sign for the location
of their small groups. But, it did not only mean that Christians
were meeting there, it meant that JESUS was there with them, in spirit, according
to His promise found in
Matthew 18:20.
