The
ARC of Maryland (formerly the
Association for Retarded Citizens) has been working to improve the lives of
children and adults with mental retardation since 1950. From a modest small
group of concerned parents, it is the largest and strongest organization
assisting persons with mental retardation in Maryland.
The
ARC of Prince George's County. Since a group of parents
founded the Prince George's County chapter in 1952, the organization has
evolved into a driving force in the county. The ARC's primary focus is
advocacy--working with families, the school system, local businesses, and
community leaders to ensure that people with mental retardation are able to
fully participate in their communities. The ARC offers both
residential and vocational services.
