The Bible says that after the fall, God told Abram, "Go to a land I will show you" (Gen 12:1).  To his disciples, Jesus said "...you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8).  Bowie is our mission field.

Our Biblical Charge

1) Pray  (Prayer)

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14

2) Love  (Care)

“Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Mark 12:31

3) Make Disciples  (Share)

"Go and make disciples of all nations."

Matthew 28:19

“You are the light of the world … let your light shine before people, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

Matthew 5:14-16

Our goal is to have enough Lighthouses to Pray-For and Care-For every person in the Bowie target area. There are approximately 60,000 people who live, school, and work in the Bowie, Mitchellville, and Woodmore target area.

If each Lighthouse prays for and cares for an average of 10 households, using an average of three people per household, this equates to approximately 2000 people or families who need to heed God's call and become Lighthouses.

Beyond DC

For the purpose of focusing our efforts, this initiative has been defined as a specific geographic area called the Bowie Area. This includes the city of Bowie and those additional areas of Mitchellville and Woodmore within a rectangular area bounded by Route 214 on the South; Route 193, Prospect Hill Road and Springfield Road on the West; Duckettown Road, Route 564 and Race Track Road on the North; and Route 3 and 301 on the East.

The area includes all of Old Town Bowie and Bowie State University to the north, the Longleaf Section to the east, the Collington Manor and Collington Station to the south, the Mitchellville/Woodmore areas to the southwest, and Camelot to the west. The Bowie Area does not include those areas in zip code 20774. The City of Bowie map available at City Hall is the best map for displaying this area.

If you want to know the neighbors (home owners only) who live on your street or nearby, you may click on Bowie Area Home Ownership.

Everyone who lives, goes to school, or works in this area is included as someone who would be prayed for and cared for. If your home, school, or workplace is outside this area, you may still participate by becoming a lighthouse in your neighborhood.
