Man on Fire 2009

Resources - Articles

Adrian Branch, former Maryland and NBA basketball star, was the guest speaker at the 6th annual 2009 Man on Fire Conference, held November 13 and 14.

Cornerstone Church hosted a Friday night dinner, prepared and catered the Men and Women of Mt. Oak.  Men from New Vision Church led the men in praise and worship prior to the message from Mr. Branch.  Belcroft Bible Church prepared and served breakfast on Saturday morning at the Bowie High School cafeteria.   Cedric Dickens, PG County Fellowship of Christian Athlete (FCA) representative shared about the mission and vision of FCA prior to Adrian bringing his message. Many Bowie High School coaches attended the breakfast as well as members of the football and basketball team.

First Responders to Christmas

Resources - Articles

As Bing used to sing, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.”  The Bowie Towne Center is decorated in green and red.  As my wife and I window-shopped, we heard the sweet and traditional music that we only hear during this part of the year.  Anticipation is in the air and it encourages our response: buy and give.  If that is the response of those with the spirit of consumerism, shouldn’t the response of those given the Holy Spirit be so much higher?

When we think of the term “first responders,” our minds might picture smoke rising from the twin towers after terrorists used two commercial planes as missiles.  They attacked America’s commercial and economic hub.  Calls went out and police, firemen, and medical rescuers responded dutifully and with great urgency. But, let’s think about the spiritual first responders.

I'm Gonna Let It Shine

Resources - Articles

A few years ago, I read a book called “I’m Gonna Let It Shine” by Dr. James Montgomery  the founder of Dawn Ministries, a world-wide church planting organization.  The book has chapter headings like … Hide it under a bushel. No! … and … Don’t let Satan snuff it out … bringing back memories of the song I used to sing as a kid in church, “This little light of mine, I’m Gonna Let It Shine.”  It’s an excellent book, an easy read, and it has a convicting message.  I have several extra copies I can give anyone who wants to read it.  I highly recommend it.

For me, one of the most memorable sentences in the book was this statement by Dr. Montgomery … “When it comes to revival, we are often waiting for God to show up and do the miraculous while God is waiting for us to show up and do the obvious.”  [1]
